Wow I never knew that about LBJ. It was the Vietnam War, like Melissent mention, that I ever heard about. Thanks for posting this. Very interesting.

I am African-American and in our house we always had a picture of JFK on the wall. Since studying the history of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s, I came to realize much the same as you indicated in your anecdote. Much praise needs to go to LBJ for his efforts in passing a lot of the laws that we benefit from today. Unfortunately the war in Vietnam over-shadowed his legacy at the end but a lot has to be said for his dedication to getting equal rights for all American citizens.
