I am a true believe in redemption. I think that the majority of humans are not evil, per se, and can be reformed to an extent. This may be true in my mind for certain murderers and even sex offenders.
However a recent news story out of Kentucky tells of a child sex offender being ordained as a church minister. “How?” and “why?” are the words that immediately come to mind. In my view placing this man in a position where he will invariably come into contact with children, is tantamount to condoning the offense.
I am convinced that he is probably remorseful and has “found Christ” in his head but why allow him the opportunity to rescind back into his past acts? Isn’t this an irresponsible act coming from a place where people expect the highest level of trust and protection.?
Anyway, let me know your thoughts on this matter. It’s troubling and perhaps more detrimental than just plain stupid.
It’s like someone was sitting around trying to think, what can we do that is just totally the most asinine thing ever?
That’s a hard question. Does rehabilitation work? Can people be truly rehabilitated? Being the optimist that I am, yes I would like to think so. Can a LARGE portion of people be rehabilitated? No I don’t think so. Why?
First off the change has to come from with in. not some court order. Second the person(s) have to be committed in doing so. Wouldn’t all thoughts always be there? Just because a person is clinically rehabilitated, doesn’t mean they don’t have the same dark thoughts anymore. Without knowing a person true thoughts, how do you know they are truly rehabilitated? By the fact that they don’t make the same mistake again or at least not act on their thoughts/feelings?
I don’t agree with this person becoming a minister. Nor am I totally sure of complete rehabilitation.
I would like to hear some other responses on this.
I agree Jason, this is like a very off color bad joke on the Dave Chappelle Show and the show gets canceled. It is so not funny and it just doesn’t seem possible that it happened.
