This week’s word comes from an anecdote of an English chap, who for six years tried desperately to obtain an investment for his invention. Although his story was inspiring, my blog this week is really about the word persistence.
My culture and upbringing have taught me that being pushy is just rude and impolite. A lot of British people have a similar attitude. I realize that’s a bit of a sweeping statement but it’s been relatively true in my experience.
I have come to the conclusion that being persistent doesn’t have to equate to being pushy and too forward. The old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the oil has no place here. However it is important that if we have realistic aspirations and strong ideas, then we should let no obstacle prevent us from pursing those objectives.
The gentleman I mentioned earlier managed to get his investment, eventually and that’s the real story here. It might have taken him six years but the excitement and almost relief on his face, once he had reached his goal was tangible.
It just gives me a little kick, when I come into contact with those types of experiences, to keep on pursuing my goals. Let me know what role persistence is playing in your lives and if you believe that this might be the key to true satisfaction in life.
