January 7th is the first Thor’s Day of the year. Each week you will find a little anecdote about what happened on the date of the corresponding Thursday when our blog posts are published.

On the first Thor’s Day of the year, in 1999, the impeachment trial for President Bill Clinton began.

Since ancient times the Japanese celebrate Nanakusa-no-sekku a custom to eat seven wild herbs on January 7th. This tradition is meant to celebrate good health and longevity.

1877 – Moonlight Graham was born. He was an American Baseball player who “played” for the NY Giants. Zero at bats and zero total chances in the field, his first and last game were the same day.

1945 – Neil Young was born. Known for many rock classics including one of my favorites “Old Man” written in 1972. Mr. Young turns 64 sorry for the pun.

1793 – John Hancock dies. Besides signing the Declaration of Independence, Hancock was also known for being one of the top ten wealthiest people in the Thirteen Colonies.

1941 – Jessie Jackson turns 68 years old, he was born the same day Germany captured Mariupol.

1956 – Don Larson of the New York Yankees pitched the first perfect game in World Series history against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
