This weeks article is a little more frivolous than the previous ones in this category. I have always been able to touch my toes. I know that this sounds a bit silly but there are people out there who have never been able to do this.
There are several reasons why they may not be able to perform this rudimentary task: -
1) Inflexibility
2) Body size
3) Shorter Arms – with long legs
4) Longer legs – with short arms
My other half suffers from number one and has great difficulty with stretching and generally being flexible. In my view maintaining a decent level of flexibility can assist in muscle strength and bone health. By gently stretching your limbs and core structure, you will be able to keep up your body’s level of strength.
Yoga is a great way to start stretching those muscles and gain greater body mobility. As we get older our body’s tendency to tighten up is something we have to work hard to prevent. Getting a good jump on this possibly age- related symptom is something we should take to heart and try to work on every day.
So start touching your toes and keep those limbs long and loose.
Well while I know that I can still touch my toes. I really need to start on an exercise and stretching routine. By starting I mean by tomorrow. lol See I stopped smoking on July 13th of this year. While this is a great achievement. I have gained 13 pounds in almost 3 months that I haven’t had a cigarette.
So time to start stretching and working off this tummy, before I can’t reach my toes anymore.
By the way. Have you been keeping up with your walks?
Actually we went for a nice walk this afternoon. I brought my jacket because I thought it was going to be a bit chilly. However the weather was lovely and I ended up carrying it all the way back!
Mark and I use these walks to talk about our websites and other stuff. Walking just helps clear your head and refocuses your thoughts.
Glad to read that you are still cigarette-free. It must be hard but a side-effect is the weight gain. I suppose the health trade off is well worth it in the long run. Have you thought of taking up a sport? Is there anything that you enjoy playing? Mark was going to take up bowling again because he loves doing that – but he’s as thin as a rake – jammy sod!
